Week in Preview: February 6 to 12

Plan ahead . . . there are a lot of activities this week that can help you gather important information, set some goals, determine a plan of action, and perhaps even achieve a short-term goal that will help you reach your ultimate destination(s).  This posting will give you the events scheduled for the coming week; watch the Blog for more details about how to make good use of these opportunities.

Monday, 2/8, 10:00am.  RefWorks Workshop.  Learn to use RefWorks, a program that manages citations and creates quick bibliographies. Library, W.E.B. Du Bois Calipari Room.

Monday, 2/8, 5:00pm.  If your application is ready, meet the PRIORITY DEADLINE for Domestic Exchanges for the 2010-2011 academic year.  If you're not ready, attend an info session and follow through the process; the final deadline for the '10-'11 academic year will be Monday, 3/1.

Tuesday, February 9, 9:30 am – 1:00 pm Stockbridge School Career Fair.  Students from the Stockbridge School and the College of Natural Sciences are invited to attend the 13th annual Stockbridge School Career Fair. Employers, many of whom are Stockbridge and UMass alumni, are offering full-time, part-time, summer and internship opportunities related to the green industries.  Campus Center Auditorium.

Tuesday, February 9, 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm.  ALANA Career Fair.  Employers seeking ALANA students for summer, internships and jobs.  Student Union Ballroom.

Tuesday, February 9, 4:45 pm.  Domestic Exchange Info Session.  Choose from over 180 schools throughout the US, Puerto Rice, Guam and the US Virgin Islands!

Wednesday,  February 10, 10am – 3pm.  UMASS Life Sciences Career Fair.  Employers seeking Life Sciences students for summer, internships and jobs. Campus Center, Lower Level.
 
Wednesday, February 10, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm.  Campus-Wide Career Fair.  Attend this job fair with some of the region's top employers. Employers are seeking students for jobs after graduation. Some of the employers may also have summer and co-op positions.  Campus Center Auditorium.

Wednesday, February 10, 4:45pm.  Domestic Exchange Info Session.  Choose from over 180 schools throughout the US, Puerto Rice, Guam and the US Virgin Islands!

Thursday, February 11, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm.  Summer, Internship and Co-op Fair.  Top employers are seeking students for internships, summer and co-op jobs.  All majors are welcome.  Employers such as Reebok, Congressman Oliver, Daily Hampshire Gazette, Yankee Candle Corporate, Lockheed Martin, EMC, Liberty Mutual, Abbott Labs, Higgins Armory Museum, WGBY_TV and others will be there.  Campus Center Auditorium.

Thursday, February 11 at 12:30pm.  Public Health Open Group Advising Sessions  If you are interested in declaring Public Health as your major or switching to Public Health from another Major, please sign up for one of the group advising sessions below.  If you have recently joined the Major, it is also an opportunity to get valuable information about opportunities, courses, sequencing classes, and the field in general.  Arnold House, Room 321.  Please send email to Lynn Koerbel at lkoerbel@schoolph.umass.edu if you plan on attending any of the open advising session.

Thursday, February 11, 6:00 pm.  Economics Career Networking Night.  The Undergraduate Economics Club (UEC), the Department of Economics, and the UMass Amherst Alumni Association invite you to meet and network with successful economics alumni currently working in a variety of fields.  Find out how their degrees in economics helped shape their career paths. The program will use a "speed-networking" format. Small groups of students will meet with each alumnus/a to converse with and ask questions about his/her career experiences. After 8-10 minutes with one of the graduates, students will move on until they have met with each of the alumni participants. At the conclusion of the program, students will have the opportunity to meet informally with the alumni.  Gordon Hall, 418 N. Pleasant St.  Click here to register for the program.

Friday, February 12 at 1:00 pm.  Australia/New Zealand Study Abroad Information Session.  Interested in studying abroad in Australia or New Zealand? Come to one of these mandatory sessions to find out more information about available programs.
